Snackles plush toys: sizes explained

Snackles plush toys: every size from 3.5 to 16 inches

Five sizes of Snackles plush toys, and the number on the box does not always mean what you expect. Here is what each one is actually like in the hand.

The number on the box is a height, not a volume

A 14-inch Super-Sized plush and a 14-inch Series 2 plush are both fourteen inches tall and they are not the same object. The Super-Sized build is wider and lower, so it takes up more shelf depth and feels heavier. If you are buying by measurement alone you will occasionally be surprised, and it is almost always in the direction of bigger.

The same is true going down. An 8-inch character with a long pile — Lucas, Robbie, the mandrill — reads a size larger than an 8-inch character with a short smooth pile like Humphrey. Fur adds apparent volume that the stated height does not capture.

3.5-inch keychains

These exist to be carried. The loop is reinforced and the clip is metal rather than a split ring, which matters because a plush on a bag strap gets more abuse in a month than a shelf piece gets in a year. Each keychain holds a mini snack. They are sold as a fixed two-pack, so you know both characters before you buy.

5-inch minis

Desk size. Small enough to sit on a monitor stand, large enough to still read as a character rather than a charm. This is the size the blind capsules use, and the size the Disney two-pack uses. If you want a licensed character without committing shelf space, start here.

8-inch plush

The default. Most of the collection exists at this size, which makes it the right choice for anyone collecting a complete series rather than cherry-picking favourites. A row of 8-inch Snackles lines up evenly because they share a body shape; mixing sizes in a row looks deliberate only if you plan it.

14-inch plush

The hugging size. This is the only size the Ninja Turtles are made in, and the size most of the Christmas characters use. The build is wide and low, so they sit flat on a bed or a sofa without tipping forward, which the 8-inch ones occasionally do.

16-inch plush

Series 2 only, and only for certain characters. Four inches over the 14-inch version does not sound like much and is immediately obvious when the two are side by side. Buy this size when you want one character to be the centrepiece rather than part of a row.

Which size people actually buy

Across the whole shelf the 8-inch plush is the size that sells most, and it is not close. It is the size that fits a school bag, costs under twenty dollars in almost every range, and lets somebody collect four characters for the price of one large one. If you are buying a Snackle for a child you have not met, buy 8 inches.

The 14-inch size is the gift size. It is the one that reads as a present on its own, it is the only size the Ninja Turtles and the Super-Sized line are made in, and it is where the snack accessory stops being a detail and becomes the obvious feature of the toy. Most adults buying for themselves buy 14 inches.

The 16-inch size is Series 2 only, eight characters, and it is a genuine piece of furniture. The 5-inch minis and the 3.5-inch keychains are travelling sizes rather than collecting sizes — you buy them to take somewhere.

Reading the inch figure correctly

Every listing carries its measurement in the name, and so does every card on this shelf. Use it. Product photography has no scale reference, and an 8-inch sloth and a 16-inch sloth are identical in a square crop — the only difference visible in a photograph is how much of the frame the snack accessory fills.

The figure refers to the seated height of the plush, measured without the accessory. A 14-inch Snackle holding a tall packet will measure more than 14 inches on a tape, which is why the Super-Sized unicorn and the 14-inch peacock both look larger than their listings suggest.

Where a character exists at more than one size, those sizes sit next to each other on the range pages, largest first. That layout exists precisely so you can compare the price of the same character across sizes before deciding.

Fill density, and why two sizes feel different

Size is not the only variable. The Super-Sized line is 14 inches but deliberately over-filled, so it stays round and pushes back when squeezed. The 16-inch Series 2 plush uses the same fabric at a lower fill density, so it collapses and springs back. The larger toy is the softer one, which surprises almost everybody.

That difference decides which one suits a child. Something to flatten and sleep on means the 16-inch Series 2 plush. Something that holds its shape on a bed means Super-Sized. Both are ultra-soft to the touch; what changes is what happens when you lean on them.

The 8-inch plush sits between the two: firm enough to keep its shape in a bag, soft enough to be worth hugging. It is the compromise size, which is exactly why it is the one most people buy.

Which shelf to open once you have picked a size

Size is the first decision and the ranges are the second. If you settled on the 8-inch plush, Series 1 is the origin of the line and holds the original ten characters, while Series 2 is the big shelf of favorite snacks, with Hershey's Cookies n Cream on the shark and Mentos on the hedgehog. Series 3 is the teen cast with human names. Snackles Disney puts Stitch, Rex and Minnie on the same round body. Every one of them is a squeezable plush in super soft fabric with the snack accessory sewn into its paws.

If you went larger, the choice narrows to two shelves. A Super-Sized Snackle is 14 inches of harder fill, built for hugs and still able to hold its shape on a display shelf; the 16-inch Series 2 plushies are taller and softer. If you went smaller, the Snackles small size minis are 5-inch and the clip-on charm duo is smaller again, both designed to be carried rather than arranged. The seasonal shelf collects the Christmas, Halloween, Easter and Love Edition characters, and those runs are short.

Whatever size you choose, the parts that make the line worth collecting do not change. ZURU designed one unique pattern and scaled it, so a 5-inch mini and a 14-inch plush read as the same adorable friend. The full-size characters come with a hangtag carrying a birthdate, a hobby, a star sign and an origin story comic, and that story comic is where each character gets its personality. It is a playful, cute line with plenty of room for imagination, and most fans find that one cuddly friend turns into a shelf of them fairly quickly.
